1.  Open your Internet Browser (e.g., Internet Explorer or Netscape) by clicking on the icon on screen’s desktop.  What is the URL in the Address or Location Bar? (Hint: the URL usually begins with http://…)

 

2.  Enter the address: http://philosophy.lander.edu/ in the Address Bar and hit the enter key.  The Homepage for Dr. Archie’s courses should load.  What is the title of the page loaded¾as shown in the title bar at the very top of the screen?  (Hint: the title page is usually followed by the name of the Browser.)

 

3.  Click on “Other Services,” and when that page loads, click on the WebStats icon.  Next click on the “Daily Activity Link.”  Scroll down to the bottom of the page.  How many “hits” are registered for yesterday.  (Hint: be sure to correlate the date with the date you wrote below your name above.)

 

4.  Click on the “Back” icon until you return to the “Other Services” page.  Click on the Majordomo Mailing List for this class and locate the first message for this semester.  What is the subject of the message?

 

5.  On the Homepage of this site, under the gray heading “Courses of Study,” click on the title of your philosophy course.  When the Homepage for your course loads, click on the icon representing the Majordomo discussion list for this class.  When the subscription page loads, enter your email address in the box marked “enter email,” and click “Submit Query.”  How will your application to this list be confirmed?

 

6.  Go back to the “Homepage” for philosophy.lander.edu and click on “Chat.”  The Melange Chat Server should load in a few seconds.  (Your computer must have Java-enabled for the Chat Server to work.) In the box labeled “name,” replace the word “guest” with your own name and hit the “Enter Key.  Scroll down to the bottom of the screen, and type in “/join philosophy” in the message box and again hit the enter key.  Now, click on the “Finger” button at the bottom of the screen.  What is written on the screen between the green horizontal lines?

 

7.  On the Homepage of this site, under the gray heading “Courses of Study,” click on the title of your philosophy course.  When the page for your philosophy course loads, click the “FAQ” (Frequently Asked Questions) for your course.  Can you exempt the final exam?

 

8.  Find lecture notes for the first class in this course.  What is the title as it appears in the title bar at the very top of the screen?  (Hint: On the Homepage for your course, click on the first course topic listed and then click on the first bulleted title listed in order to access the lecture notes.)

 

9.  Find the title for the first example quiz in this course.  What is the title as it appears in the title bar at the very top of the screen?

 

10.  Find the title for the first example test in this course.  What is the title as it appears in the title bar at the top of the screen?

 

11.  Find the philosophy search engine called “Hippas.”  Search for the word  “a priori.”  What is the definition of this term as given by the Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy?

 

12.  Go back to “Other Services” and click on the “subscribe/unsubscribe” link.  Enter your email address and enter a check in “All” in order to browse all lists.  Next, click on the mailing list for this class.  Scroll down and click for access to members of this list.  Are you a member of the list?
