[20:10] *** pchicaq has joined #philosophy
[20:10] <pchicaq> hello mr. Archie
[20:11] <larchie> Hi
[20:11] <pchicaq> whooooooooo I'm glad i
found the chat
[20:11] <larchie> I think you are the first
to sign in
[20:11] <larchie> Any questions?
[20:11] <pchicaq> yes
[20:11] <pchicaq> on the online test
[20:12] <pchicaq> it only have informal
falacies
[20:12] <pchicaq> does that mean we are
having our test on the fallacies
[20:12] <pchicaq> ?
[20:12] <larchie> Right--the test covers
fallacies and agreements and disagreements
[20:13] <larchie> Most of the test is the
fallacies.
[20:14] <pchicaq> will you give us examples
for the disagreements and disagreements and we would have to tell you, who
disagrees, like the first quiz?
[20:15] <larchie> Yes, like the quiz and the
exercises in the syllabus.
[20:15] <pchicaq> ook...
[20:15] <pchicaq> my next question.
[20:16] <larchie> sure
[20:16] <pchicaq> how would me and sarah be
able to simplify false cause and not get it confused with the other fallacies
[20:17] <larchie> Study
http://philosophy.lander.edu/logic/cause.html carefully
[20:18] <larchie> Look at the examples. The fallacy is what it is--it really can't
be simplified, if I know what you mean.
[20:19] <larchie> False cause only applies to
events--not hasty generalizations or "jumping to a conclusion"
[20:19] <larchie> It imvolves sequences or
connections of states of affairs or events with the implication that one
"produced" or caused the other to happen.
[20:23] <pchicaq> ok that explaines it
[20:25] <larchie> Be careful not to "see
it everywhere"--some people think of "false cause" as
"fallacy" or somehow the premisses causing the conclusion.
[20:25] <larchie> The fallacy is very much
like the two structures described online
Chat For Review for Test II Fallacies and Language
[20:27] <pchicaq> will you be on with in

[20:28] <larchie> I be here till 9:00

[20:44] <pchicaq> Hello there! I'm back!
[20:44] <larchie> o k
[20:46] <pchicaq> what catagory will
declarative fall under, imformative, expressive or directive.
[20:47] <larchie> It could be all or any.
[20:47] <pchicaq> just like interogative and
exclamatory?
[20:47] <larchie> The test just covers
agreements and disagreements from that chapter.
[20:48] <pchicaq> ok
[20:48] <larchie> Sentence types include
declarative, etc.--these are the kinds of sentences.
[20:49] <larchie> The informative,
expressive, are the uses for those sentences.
[20:51] <pchicaq> alrighty
[20:53] <pchicaq> I want an "A" on
this test. so what are the probabilities that I will get an 'A'?
[20:54] <pchicaq> by the second test (looking
back on other semesters) what are the odds
[20:54] <pchicaq> :)
[20:55] <larchie> I'm not sure what you are
asking. The test isn't really a matter of luck--see the syllabus and website
for study hints.
[20:58] *** pchicaq has quit IRC (Ping timeout)
