What is the Body-Identified Mind?

By Anna C. Nance <eirendel@yahoo.com>

A mind that identifies with the body is one that has yet to release the ego. A body-identified mind still associates with the material world, with other people’s opinions. Such a mind defines itself empirically: what hob do you hold, what do you own, etc. Buddhism considers the body-identified mind to be a hindrance (for want of a better word) in reaching enlightenment. Buddhists believe that the mind must release all sense of individualism, of (empirical) self before enlightenment can be attained.

This is true! Most of us are greatly influenced by the things we do and the people around us. Some of our minds have taken a step away from being body-identified though. We have chosen Lander as oppossed to some big name school like Clemson, USC, Harvard, etc......
