Evaluation of Example 9: President's Tax Hike
Pasage:
“The president got his tax hike in
the fiscal cliff debate. To ask for more now without
significant spending cuts, entitlement reform and a re-written
tax code aligns him with the extortionists who ruled Chicago
during the Roaring 1920s.”
Cal Thomas, “Extortionist in Chief,” Index-Journal
94 no. 297 (23 Feb. 2013), 9A.
Analsyis:
The fallacy of ad hominem name
calling occurs. The allegation is that Mr. Obama is comparable
to the 1920's Chicago gangsters because he requests a tax hike
without significant spending cuts.
Mr. Obama asks for tax increase without spending cuts and better tax code.
Requesting an increase without cuts and better tax code is akin to being a Chicago gangster.
Mr. Obama's tax increase is absurd.
