Positive Slanting: “Dear Abby” Example
Even with the following unpolished translation, the rhetorical
effect of the letter is evidently not informative, but expressive.
DEAR ABBY: In reference to NO OPEN HOUSE: Since the woman enjoys staying at home, she might choose to care for this lovely child's well-being. And she probably would anticipate being a friend to him, also. Most likely this tyke is welcomed by Grandpa because he's so energetic. And surely you must care about him also! The little tot should be encouraged to visit his grandfather all day. Good experiences could result and hopefully he would learn valuable lessons about life. If this sweet woman lets him visit her house often enough, she might be moved to help him through college. In any event, wouldn't you want to take him, Abby? |
